Mistake No 1: Buying society’s bullshit
(Not questioning social convention)
Remember that social conventions are randomly linked to a certain time and place. Move 100 years backwards or forwards in time and social conventions will be very different. Or move a few thousand kilometres up north, south, east or west and social conventions will also be drastically different.
It is nothing but a coincidence that you are living in a certain time at a certain place.
And you blindly adopt the random ideas of your time and place – no matter how stupid they might be from the perspective of any other time and place.
Don’t be stupid. Go ahead and question these ideas as the life you are living might well not be yours.
Mistake No 2: Buying your own bullshit
(Being invested in your own beliefs)
While the first mistake was about blindly accepting societies bullshit this is about your very own bullshit. Know that you have developed your very own set of beliefs of how the world is, how people are, how you are and how life works in general. And (of course) you believe them to be true.
You are sooo funny !!!
Know that everybody else has their own set of beliefs that might greatly differ from yours and they are just as convinced as you are that they are right.
As usual it is much easier to call other people’s bullshit than your own. While we can clearly see why other people’s beliefs are faulty, we usually have a very hard time accepting this for ourself. That is why it is called „beliefs“! Do not be invested in your funny little ideas! Be open to the possibilities that they are wrong, screwed, faulty (they actually are!). Give up your righteousness and greet the world knowing that things might well be very different from how you think they are.
Mistake No 3: Resenting other people’s realities (bullshit)
We spend a lot of time being frustrated with other people’s behaviour, opinions and judgements while they are spending a lot of time being frustrated with us. Once you understand that both, society’s as well as your own ideas are pretty random, false and actually quite funny …
… there is no point being frustrated with other people.
They simply have their very own random and funny beliefs. Just like you.
Now when we stop measuring other people’s ideas and behaviour against our own standards we can finally do the most beautiful thing available to human beings which is to connect, appreciate and celebrate people no matter how different their views and behaviours might be from ours.
